Rizal Poems Essays

Rizal Poems Essays Rizal Poems Paper Rizal Poems Paper Essay Topic: Ross Gay Poetry You bid me now to strike the lyre. That deaf-and-dumb person and torn so long has lain: And yet I can non wake the strain. Nor will the Muse one note inspire! Coldly it shakes in accenta dire. As if my psyche itself to contorting. And when its sound seems but to fling A joke at its ain low plaint ; So in sad isolation pent. My psyche can neither experience nor sing. There was a time-ah. t is excessively true – But that clip long ago has past – When upon me the Muse had cast Indulgent smiling and friendship’s due ; But of that age now all excessively few The ideas that with me yet will remain ; As from the hours of gay drama There linger on cryptic notes. And in our heads the memory floats Of minstrelsy and music homosexual. A works I am. that barely grown. Was torn from out its Eastern bed. Where all around aroma is shed. And life but as a dream is known ; The land that I can name my ain. By me disregarded ne’er to be. Where trilling birds their vocal taught me. And Cascadess with their ceaseless boom. And all along the apreading shore The mutter of the sounding sea. While yet in childhood’s happy twenty-four hours. I learned upon its Sun to smile. And in my chest at that place seems the piece Huming volcanic fires to play. A bard I was. my wish alway To name upon the fleeting air current. With all the force of poetry and head: Go Forth. and spread around its fire From zone to district with glad acclamation. And Earth to heaven together bind! But it I left. and now no more – Like a tree that is broken and dried-up – My natal Gods bring the reverberation clear Of vocals that in past times they bore ; Wide seas I cross’d to foreign shore. With hope of alteration and other destiny ; My folly waa made clear excessively tardily. For in the topographic point of good I sought The seas reveal’d unto me naught. But made death’s ghost on me wait. All these fond illusions that were mine. AIl love. all feeling. all emprise. Were left beneath the cheery skies. Which o’er that flowery part radiance ; So press no more that supplication of thine. For vocals of love from out a bosom That in cold blood liea a thing apart ; Since now with tortur’d psyche I haste Unresting o’er the desert waste. And lifeless gone is all the art. To my Muse Invoked no longer is the Muse. The lyre is out of day of the month ; The poets it no longer usage. And youth its inspiration now imbues With other signifier and province. If today our illusions aught Of poetry would still necessitate. Helicon’s hill remains undesired ; And without attentiveness we but ask. Why the java is non brought. In the topographic point of idea sincere That our Black Marias may experience. We must prehend a pen of steel. And with poetry and line terrible Flinging abroad a joke and mockery. Muse. that in the yesteryear inspired me. And with vocals of love hast fired me ; Go thou now to dull rest. For today in sordid prose I must gain the gold that hired me. Now must I chew over deep. Meditate. and battle on ; E’en sometimes I must cry ; For he who love would maintain Great hurting has undergone. Fled are the yearss of easiness. The yearss of Love’s delectation ; When flowers still would delight And give to enduring souls cessation From hurting and sorrow’s blight. One by one they have passed on. All I loved and moved among ; Dead or married- from me gone. For all I place my bosom upon By fate adverse are annoyed. Go 1000. excessively. O Muse. depart. Other parts fairer find ; For my land but offers art For the laurel. ironss that bind. For a temple. prisons blind. But before thou leavest me. speak: State me with thy voice sublime. Thou couldst of all time from me seek A vocal of sorrow for the weak. Defiance to the tyrant’s offense. The Song of the Traveller Like to a foliage that is fallen and withered. Tossed by the storm from pole unto pole ; Therefore roams the pilgrim abroad without intent. Roams without love. without state or psyche. Following uneasily unreliable luck. Fortune which e en as he grasps at it flees ; Vain though the hopes that his longing is seeking. Yet does the pilgrim embark on the seas Ever impelled by the unseeable power. Destined to roll from the East to the West ; Oft he remembers the faces of loved 1s. Dreams of the twenty-four hours when he. excessively. was at remainder. Opportunity may delegate him a grave on the desert. Grant him a concluding refuge of peace ; Soon by the universe and his state forgotten. God rest his psyche when his rovings cease! Frequently the grieving pilgrim is envied. Circling the Earth like a sea-gull above ; Little. ah. small they know what a nothingness Saddens his psyche by the absence of love. Home may the pilgrim return in the hereafter. Back to his loved 1s his footfalls he bends ; Naught will he find but the snow and the ruins. Ashs of love and the grave of his friends. Pilgrim. begone! Nor return more afterlife. Stranger thou art in the land of thy birth ; Others may sing of their love while joying. Thou one time once more must roll o’er the Earth. Pilgrim. begone! Nor return more afterlife. Dry are the cryings that a piece for thee ran ; Pilgrim. begone! And bury thine affliction. Loud laughs the universe at the sorrows of adult male. How to deal when you’re stuck on autopilot in your life

How to deal when you’re stuck on autopilot in your life When you’re just starting out in your career, everything feels significant. You’re learning how to navigate workplace politics, perform new tasks, and balance work and life. After a few years, though, you’ve fallen into routines, and you’re not the New Kid anymore. So how do you shake that rut? Change your routine. This applies both at work and at home. Do you stop at the same coffee place every morning before work and order the same thing? Go somewhere different. Even small changes can help you feel like things are less of a standard drudge. Maybe you drive a different route to work, or take a different train. Maybe you get up half an hour earlier so you have time to fit in some reading or exercise before you head in to work. Maybe you take a break and go outside for lunch instead of listening to podcasts at your desk while you eat. Or try chatting up a coworker you don’t know very well. Making small changes can make you feel like things are less st ale and predictable.Adjust your work-life balance.â€Å"Go find something new to do† was my mom’s usual reply when I’d complain about being bored as a kid, and she was right. She’s still right. It’s on us to seek out new activities that challenge and engage us. If that means setting boundaries about when you respond to work email after hours or carving out time in the evening so you can take a fun class or work on your scrimshaw carvings, do it. Hobbies can make you more engaged and productive overall, because then you have an outlet for de-stressing and focusing your energy.Push yourself. It’s time to do something outside your comfort zone. Don’t do anything that makes you feel physically or emotionally unsafe, of course, but try something you wouldn’t ordinarily do. We get stuck in ruts because they’re comfortable- not because we’re necessarily choosing the mundane over the exciting. Introduce a little excitement by pushing yourself toward a goal that requires you to stretch a little. Maybe that’s starting an off-the-record job search to see what else is out there. Or maybe it’s as simple as taking a public speaking class, when you’ve studiously avoided giving public presentations for years due to stage fright.Set goals.Nothing creates an autopilot rut than focusing on the day-to-day rather than what comes next. You get so mired in the present tense that it can feel like there is nothing to look forward to- hence the frustration and despair that things are not moving forward. It’s time to sit down and plan out your goals- both career and life- and think about what your next phase looks like and what you need to do to start moving in that direction.Feeling stuck happens to everyone at some point, either professionally or personally. The best way to get over that feeling of ennui is to focus on yourself and determine what would make you feel happier/calmer/more sat isfied in the day-to-day. You might be amazed at how small adjustments can change your overall perspective.

Can You See the Real Me Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Can You See the Real Me - Essay Example In communication per se, had people been able to communicate effectively by means of internet and cyber chatting Where can a person expose its real self Has there been a difference of how a person shows it self face-to-face and through internet In Can You See the Real Me Activation and Expression of the "True Self" in the Internet, Bargh, McKenna and Fitzimons (2002), the idea that a person possesses a multiple sense of persona has been described by different psychologists and sociologists. True to the fact that a person can change moods and expressions in different situations, it is ideally easy to believe that a person or a stranger in the cyberworld can openly be with its "true self" rather than face-to-face situations or encounters. If a person in the cyberworld remains anonymous and is spared with the risks of social sanctions while remaining socially active, then a person can reveal its "true-self" in the internet rather than face-to-face encounters. During the process of identifying if a person in the cyberworld remains anonymous and is spared with the risks of social sanctions while remaining socially active, then a person can reveal its "true-self" in the internet rather than face-to-face encounters, forty six students enrolled in introductory psychology course in New York University of which 18 were male and 28 were female were identified as the Independent Variables (IV). These students participated by pairs of which 16 is of the same sex and 7 was cross sex. On the other hand, the Dependent Variables (DV) are the true self and actual self of the participants, wherein, the reaction to the set of tests will be observed to prove the hypothesis. CONCEPTUAL DEFINITIONS OF VARIABLES Independent variable is the variable that is controlled and manipulated by the experimenter. Dependent variable is not manipulated; instead the DV is observed or measured for variation as a presumed result of the variation in the IV.1 In this case, the students will be manipulated by the experimenter by conducting a series of tests. How they react to these tests, whether they reveal their true self or actual self, will be observed and identified as a result of the manipulation of the experimenter to the students. METHODOLOGY The gathered data were analyzed using a 2x2x2x2 repeated measures of ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) of which, then interaction mode: online or face-to-face, interaction length: 5 or 15 minutes, self concept: actual self or true self, and participants in pair were being observed. The first two factors describe the variables between participants and the last 2 factors describe the variables within the participants. OPERATIONALIZATION OF VARIABLES The participants were experimented with the use of stimuli for the computerized reaction time task consisted of trait words which are presented to the participants in random order. Consisting of 8 practice trials and 45 experimental trials, each word will appear in the center of the screen until the participant responds. 35 words of the experimental trials frequently encountered trait terms which are "wise" and "bossy" of which half are positive and half are negative. The 10 other words of the stimuli were the "actual self" and "true self" words which were generated earlier from the participants but were placed in the last part of the stimuli so that the participants will not detect its connection towards the experiment. All the sessions were conducted by a single

Out Stress and Pressure, In Health and Leisure The New Marketing Plan Essay

Out Stress and Pressure, In Health and Leisure The New Marketing Plan - Essay Example Is the resort ready and equipped Notwithstanding the impressive standards, a new marketing plan coordinating and embodying all related functions affecting sales strategies for both goods and services, current and new, has to be devised in order to further promote the facilities and, in the process, increase the traffic of the visitors coming in to attain the given objective. The quality and ingenuity of the products are among the top priorities. From here on, all physical care and massage creams, oils, balms and the like will be indigenous, to be procured from among the best in the world. The honey from New Zealand, the virgin coconut oil made in the Philippines, the balms from North America and the other natural consumables will henceforth become fixtures in the health and wellness centers and beauty parlors. Highlighting the use of these products with pictures and labeled exhibits in conspicuous spots in relevant venues will most likely help convey to the customers the hotel management's great concerns for their health and body aura. To be likewise introduced are variations in the gym programs and detoxification centers. Bottomless ginger shakes with muscovado sugar in calculated quantity, fresh tomato juice, iced garlic-in-tea drink, onion honey lemon beverage and similar thirst quenchers are to be provided each participating guest. To be added maybe is chilled fresh cow's milk which contains more anti-oxidants than commercially packed non-organic ones. Such a good deed shall verily manifest how true is the hotel to as far as concerning the quality of the products that the resort wants to be known for, among others. These are small things which mean a lot and which will surely show the passion for bringing real good health to the tired businessman or professional who has chosen this beautiful leisure landmark. Demonstration model gardens fully developed out of worm castings, Charles Darwin's living soil, will be put in place along prominent roads and pathways. Pretty-looking green and leafy veggies are to be planted in the plots for everybody to see. These will emote the seriousness of the in-house go-organic crusade for the satisfaction of the week-enders who have come to re-energize the body and the soul after a five-or-six-day boring routine. Any no-nonsense top-caliber achiever so deserves. The employment of masseurs and therapists must likewise be with some innovations. There will be free choices along age, race and physical build dynamics. For instance, the guy who desires Thai massage has to be attended to by a Thai or an Asian. We cannot imagine how a client will feel being Thai-massaged by a blonde-haired white European lady. All these propositions relative to the products of the resort surely answer the query why Hotel X will stand out over the rest. Simply said, it is because the new management knows and believes in the products and the care for those who will use the merchandise. One cannot sell something that he has no knowledge about. Alcohol Abuse Among Teenagers Essay Example for Free

Alcohol Abuse Among Teenagers Essay Its very interesting that I find myself writing about something that not only is commonsense, but what is more, something that every one knows about in general but may not in particular. Alcohol use among teenagers is a serious problem and is responsible for death and injury in automobile accidents, physical and emotional disability, deterioration of academic performances, aggressive behavior that causes a number of other sociological problems in families and among friends. It is also the primary cause of criminal behavior and a leading cause of broken marriages. As we know its a broad topic therefore Ill look at the role that alcohol plays in the society and its impact on teenage addiction. MATTER OF CONCERN (Causes and effects) The age when young people are taking their first drink is becoming lower each year. Many studies show that preteens are experimenting with alcohol and many are already heavy drinkers (Cahalan 1997). It may be difficult for parents and teachers to believe that a seventh grade student can have an alcohol problem, but a study of student drinking practices shows that 5% of seventh-grade boys and 4. 4% of seventh-grade girls are seriously abusing alcohol (Royce 1996). Thats why we see the consequences in terms of antisocial behavior, school failure, attention deficit, learning disabilities and road accidents among the teenagers. THE MAIN CAUSE ?.. MEDIA. Despite the problems caused to young and old by alcohol, society sends mixed signals to its youth. Media presents alcohol drinking with peers as not only acceptable but also to insure friendship and as a romantic beverage. Movies present a realistic picture of alcohol abuse. A report by scientific analysis corporation examined drinking practices on television and found that out of 225 programs 701 alcoholic drinking acts were recorded which were against the voluntary code (Jean Lennane,1995) of the liquor industry. The code states that: a) Any actor shown drinking must be over the age sixty. a) Any drinking shown should be natural, sensible and responsible. a) Ads should not suggest that drinking alcohol contributes toward social, sexual or supporting success or as being a pre-requisite of relaxation. a) Ads should not challenge or dare people to consume alcohol. We can see the ads any night and judge rather how many dont breach the voluntary code. AVAIBILITY AND ACCEPTABILITY A leading cause is that alcoholic drinks can be easily obtained and these are socially more acceptable than other drugs. Parents, teenagers and educators often fail to realize the potential for problems that alcohol presents to the immature psyche and body(Kay Healey, 1997). At the time when body and emotions are maturing, frequent or excessive use of alcohol can cause irrapareable damage. MISCONCEPTION: Drinking alcohol is only viewed as an adult behavior in the society. Alcoholic beverages are advertised and marketed as being associated with sexuality and romance, but, infact alcohol is a depressant which decreases overall sexual performance and dulls pleasurable feelings. (Kay Healey,1997) FAMILY FACTORS: Parental attitude and behavior regarding alcohol use play important role in how their children view its use. Evidence exists that a family history of antisocial and poor parenting increases the risk of having children who use alcohol and other drugs. The home is the primary source of alcohol for the young adolescent. ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT: Teenagers report that they drink for enjoyment, to forget problems or to reduce stress and anxiety in their lives. Teenagers, however are at increased risk of becoming intoxicated while drinking less than adults because of their limited experience with alcohol and smaller body size. Depressed or those teenagers who have been physically or sexually abused may use alcohol in an attempt to cope with their psychological distress DRUNK DRIVING Inexperienced driving combined with inexperienced drinking is a deadly combination . A report from National Centre For Health Statistics shows that motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death among persons Between 15-23 years of age. Although they may reserve the right to drive, but, of course no right to put the others in danger while accidents. OTHER EFFECTS: Underage drinking has countless effects and therefore, its impossible to take all of them into account. Research shows that of those who began drinking at the age of 18,66% subsequently are classified with alcohol dependence and 7. 8% with alcohol abuse. If a person waits until the age of 21 before taking their first drink, these risks decreases by 60%. (Grant 103) Alcohol use can affect teenagers health, family relationships and can also place other members of the society in danger. It has a tendency to lower the productivity and the quality of work being done and can cause problems in both ones school and career. Economic costs are also an issue when it comes to underage drinking. IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM: Identifying the teenager alcohol abuser is difficult but not impossible. Specific behavior and characteristics to watch for to determine if alcohol abuse is occurring include the following; a) frequent absenteeism. b) decline in academic performance. c) lack of interest in extracurricular activities d) problems with peers e) self destructive behavior f) lack of energy g) lack of concern about personal wellbeing. h) obvious signs of intoxication CONCLUSION: Alcohol abuse among teenagers and even younger children is a rapidly growing social problem. Alcohol is glamorized in movies and television. Beer commercials using sports figures try to convince teenagers. As a society we send mixed signals to our youth about alcohol use, on the one hand we talk about it, joke about it, and treat it as not only acceptable but also desirable. On the other hand we recognize the problems caused by alcohol abuse. Death and injuries in traffic accidents, loss of productivity, child abuse, broken homes and other serious societal problems linked to alcohol. REMEDY: In my suggestion, an intensive education program supported by the community with qualified persons and also supported by the government in terms of financial support can positively change the attitudes and cause significant change in knowledge about alcohol. Schools can play an important role to initiate education and preventive efforts because they reach more students than any other place. It also involves complete commitment with extensive planning. Jealousy and Self-construal Essay -- Psychology, Emotions

Jealousy is an intrinsically relational phenomenon that is regarded as a multidimensional experience, consisting of cognitive, emotional and coping behaviors (Aylor, 2004; Fleischmann et. al, 2005; Pfeiffer and Wong, 1989; Theiss, 2006). Jealousy typically occurs when there is a potential threat to or an actual loss of a valued relationship between oneself and another due to a real or imagined rival for one’s partner’s attention (DeSteno & Salovey, 1996; Fleischmann et. al, 2005; Pfeiffer & Wong, 1989; White, 1981; White & Mullen, 1989). These real or perceived threats cause individuals to experience and respond to jealousy differently, as most researchers believe jealousy to be not a single emotion, but a combination of internal and external negative emotions. Some people may internally experience hurt, anger, and fear of loss or deterioration of an important relationship (Aylor, 2004; Pfeiffer & Wong, 1989; Strom & Aune, 2008; White & Mullen, 1989); while other peopl e may experience external displays of jealousy, such as crying, retaliating, departing, using surveillance or even becoming aggressive (Fleischmann et. al, 2005). Although jealousy appears in a variety of forms and levels of intensity, it always results from an interaction between predispositions and a triggering event. An individual’s response to jealousy may be either direct or indirect depending on the severity of the relational threat posed by a potential rival (Bevan & Tidgewell, 2009; Theiss & Solomon, 2006). Severe problems in relationships often call for direct communication to resolve the issue. Direct responses often include accosting the partner or rival in face-to-face communication. For instance, a jealous partner might approach the rival to altercat... ...e relationship and creates feelings of uneasiness or anxiety, both of which may lead to decreased intimacy. Consequently, individuals may take measures to reduce uncertainty and improve their relationship with their partner. A fourth goal is re-assessing the relationship which occurs when individuals experience discontent in their relationship, thus they may re-examine the relationship by weighing the costs and benefits attributed to the relationship. The last cognitive goal provided is restoring equity through retaliation and transpires when partners in inequitable relationships participate in behaviors prompted by the need to restore equity in the relationship (e.g., tactics that even the score). Understanding how these cognitive goals impact the experience of jealousy is an essential first step in understanding how an individual will express jealous behaviors.

Poetry essay

One of the most renowned American poets, named Emily Dickinson, was a woo man who seemed to be sad and depressed. Her poems had themes of happiness but h err most famous ones were about death. In the poem † I felt a funeral in my brain† she writes about how she imagines how her funeral will feel and look like. Dickinson used literary devices such as imagery, similes, and alliteration to allow her theme of death and depression to be portrayed within the poem. Dickinson in her poem used imagery to create visual representations of dead h.She spoke about all of the people walking to see her at her own funeral. â€Å"l felt a funeral in my b rain, And mourners, to and fro, Kept treading treading. † The people constantly going in and out, never stopping, shows her hopelessness for herself, like the pain will never end, and it will all lead up to her death. The people treading back and forth are her depressed thoughts treading through her mind. The mourners and the pain t hey feel about the death of Dickinson are I n relation to her actual pain that's going on inside her. The use of imagery at the â€Å"funeral† dispel y the theme of depression and death. The use of comparing two things apart but together;similes, aids with the t hem of death and depression in Dickinson poetry. The funeral is compared to a beat of drum. † A service like a drum†. The beating of a drum is like the beating of all of her thoughts constant TTYL going through her mind. All these thoughts that keep beating within her brain, begin to all fee el the same, and soon becomes numb to it all. The use of similes comparing the outmoded wit h Dickinson inner world is a manifestation of the theme of death and depression.Dickinson in her poetry uses same consonants sounds written together to allow for her theme to be emphasized. She writes about her body being put down into the ground . â€Å"And I dropped down and down†. The repetition of the consonant â€Å" D† in this case highlights, t he pain slowly getting worse and worse. Dickinson mind folding within itself, going into Dee per worlds of pain. Going â€Å"deeper and deeper† into the ground, or her mind, shows her lie nation from the outside world and only focusing on her pain, and not allowing for her self to g et better, and instantly just getting into a deeper depressed state.Alliteration allows for he r theme of death and depression to be portrayed across in her poetry. Emily Dickinson seemed to be a woman who has a great deal of depression n, and thoughts about death. In her poetry she creates the visual representation of her pain. S he compares in order to portray the depression. Using the same consonants allows for her feelings of pain to be emphasized. Dickinson, with the use of literary devices, allows her pain and h err thoughts about death and her depression to be expressed within her poetry.

Bus 520 Assignment 1

Consensual Relationship Agreements By: Vickie Gonzalez Bus 520 – Leadership and Organizational Behavior Professor: Dr. Marilyn Carroll October 24th, 2012 Workplace romances are now one of the challenges that organizations of all sizes have to address. How they address them varies from organization to organization. Some businesses and organizations strictly prohibit them in any form or fashion, while others prohibit them when the participants are in certain roles within the organization. Some companies have chosen not to address the issue at all and others are using a more formal method of documenting and mitigating the risk they feel these relationships pose. One of the methods of documenting, and potentially mitigating, this risk is known as a consensual relationship agreement or CRA. In the text that follows I will argue for the use of CRA’s in the workplace. Secondly, I will present a counter argument for the use of CRA’s. Then we will then look at the ethical principles involved in the use of CRA’s. Lastly I will present another option that may be available for addresses these consensual relationships.First, let’s look at what brought about the need for CRA’s. On June 28th, 1914 Gavrilo Princip, of Sarajevo, assassinated the Archduke and heir to the throne of Austria, Franz Ferdinand (Collins, 2008, p. 9). Thirty-seven days later World War I began, and with it, so did what some see as the beginnings of women entering the workplace. The Munitions of War Act of 1915 moved twenty-one percent of Britain’s wives, sisters, mothers and daughters into the workforce (Woolacott, 1994, p. 17). Factory workers became soldiers and the women in their lives became factory workers.By 1941, and the United States’ entrance into World War II, 18. 9 million American women had entered the workforce as well (Weak-Baxter, 2010, p. 14). Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor and patriotism was welling just as strong in American women as it was in American men. Now, according to the US Department of Labor, there are 72 million women in the civilian labor force alone (2012). The years following World War II were a time of challenge, adaptation and diversification for business, and revolution and exploration for women. Harassment, specifically sexual harassment, is one of those hallenges faced by businesses and employers as of a result of workplace diversification. Inappropriate conversations, unwanted advances and uncomfortable physical contact are some of the ways sexual harassment can occur. According to Hellriegel and Slocum, â€Å"Sexual harassment refers to unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. † (p. 52). To be clear, sexual harassment can, and has, affected both women and men over the years however up to half of all working women have reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment in the career (Vijayasiri, 2008, p. ). It wasn’t until 1986 though that the Supreme Court recognized sexual harassment as a violation of Title VII in the case of Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson (O’Brien, 1994, p. 1). Before the high court’s ruling, however, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission had begun to address the issue by drafting hostile work environment guidelines that included sexual harassment (O’Brien, 1994, p. 4). These guidelines would serve later to guide the high court’s decision. There are many more cases like this one we could look at.In 1991, sexual harassment became a household term as Anita Hill testified before congress stating she was sexually harassed by a current nominee for the Supreme Court. In her statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee Ms. Hill stated, â€Å"It is only after a great deal of agonizing consideration, and sleepless, number of , great number of sleepless night, that I am able to talk of these unpleasant matters to anyone but my close frie nds† ( Black Scholar, 1991, p 1). For many American this was the first time they had really thought about or discussed sexually harassment. It was on our televisions, out in the open, for the whole world to see. As a result of brave employees like Ms. Hill and many others sexual harassment is no less tolerated in the workplace and employers are required to have specific policies addressing it. Now what happens when the relationship between two employees is consensual? No harassment has occurred. Romance is in the air. Some organizations have policies that prohibit workplace relationships of any kind and participating in one is grounds for termination. Other businesses only prohibit these relationships in the event that one party reports to or manages the other.More and more firms are using consensual relationship agreements or CRAs. A CRA is a written agreement or contract in which the involved parties agree to specific guidelines in the workplace (Hellriegel/Slocum, 2011, p. 6 5). This is one of the practices or policies an organization can use to mitigate the risks associated with workplace relationships. In this agreement the parties involved state that the relationship is voluntary. They agree to abide by any and all anti-harassment or anti-discrimination policies the business has in place, including reporting any violation of these policies that may occur. They also agree to behave professionally at all times which includes avoiding even the appearance of favoritism. There are proponents and opponents of the use of these agreements in the workplace. I agree with the proponents of the use of CRAs in the workplace. Hellriegel and Solcum mention several arguments in favor in CRAs in the workplace in our text. I would like to look at three of these. The first argument that Hellriegel and Solcum mention is that CRAs help mitigate the risk of any sexual harassment litigation (p. 65). I have to agree with this argument. Office relationships can be wonderful.I know several happy couples who met at the office. They manage their personal and professional lives well. However this is not always the case, and when the relationship fails, things may change. This can be especially true if this relationship involved one part that directly, or even indirectly reports to the other. The employee may suggest they were pressured into the relationship by their manager. The manager may resent the employee and treat them unfairly. Both of these scenarios, and many others, open the doors to litigation. The employer in both of these cases could be found liable in a sexual harassment suit.Damages awarded in these cases can be punitive and compensatory. In 1997 large corporations spent more than 6 million for each sexual harassment suit they defended themselves against and/or settled (Vijayasiri, 2008, p. 2) Employers can protect themselves from this risk by ensuring they have a very clearly stated workplace relationship policy that, in my opinion, should i nvolve the use of CRAs. The second argument is favor of the use of CRAs is that they help to reduce the appearance of favoritism in the workplace (Hellriegel/Slocum, 2011, p. 65).Ensuring that there is not even the appearance of favoritism in the workplace is not just a matter of fair policy. In many cases a third party can sue their employer for sexual harassment if they feel they are being discriminated against as the result of a workplace relationship. Employees are human and emotions and perception are part of being human. No employer can predict what behavior will be acceptable to one employee and offensive to another, A CRA requiring both participants in the relationship to behave in a professional manner can help minimize this risk of offending a third party. In 2001, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit upheld a verdict in favor of Diane Leibovitz for $60,000 against the New York City Transit Authority or NYCTA for what the court determined to be a hostil e work environment (Leibovitz v. NYCTA, 2001). Ms. Leibovitz sued the NYCTA for sexual harassment and emotional distress after confronting her employer regarding the sexual harassment of 3 other female co-workers. Ms. Leibovitz’s job was threatened if she did not remain silent. As a result of these threats she suffered from depression and sleep deprivation. Ms. Leibovitz was not the victim of any sexual advances or misconduct, however, witnessing it and her employer’s inaction created a hostile work environment and a $60,000 judgment on her behalf. The third agreement presented in the text in favor of the use of CRA’s is that they create a forum where human resources can talk openly with employees about the responsibilities and ramification that come with an office romance (Hellriegel/Slocum, 2011, p. 5). This is simply an opportunity for the employer to remind the employee what behavior is and is not appropriate in the workplace. The employer can also restate th e company’s commitment to preventing sexual harassment. This is the time for open and honest discussion in the hopes that awareness and understanding may prevent litigation. Those who argue against the use of CRA’s in the workplace argue that they are a violation of the employee’s privacy and in-effective.

Like any essay, finance essay is a written response to a certain question or problem. Your task is to organize relevant information to support a structured argument as well as to communicate your argument clearly and concisely. Finance essays are common assignments for students studying finance. Their goal is to demonstrate that you can think critically about the material at hand. It may involve analyzing business statistics, tax issues, payroll issues, and accounting practices. If you want to get a high grade, you need to show not just recall and understanding. You have to demonstrate that you are able to analyze and synthesize ideas from various sources and then, critically evaluate them. For example, when writing an essay in finance, you can examine the relationship between government regulations and complex formulas and focus on facts to determine future outcomes. Finance essays typically don’t have a formal structure like, for example, reports but there are paragraphs an introduction, the main body, and a conclusion. A typical finance essay analyses, explains, discusses, gives an interpretation, and evaluates a certain topic. Some characteristics of a good finance essay include: a fresh original approach; a clear logical structure; not just a mere description but in-depth analyses; illustration of the points with up-to-date examples; based on extensive reading and research; a clear introduction and a conclusion; carefully constructed sentences; flawless spelling, grammar, and punctuation. How to Choose Good Finance Essay Topics Typically, instructors provide students with a list of possible essay topics but often they give students the opportunity to choose a topic for their finance essay on their own. Choosing a good essay topic is very important for the success of your finance essay but sometimes, it may be challenging. Here are some tips on how to choose a great topic that will help you achieve success in writing. Select a topic you are interested in. You will enjoy working on your project and your readers will appreciate your enthusiasm and passion that you will demonstrate in writing. Select a topic that is familiar to you in some way or another. It will be easier to do a research and brainstorm interesting ideas and the entire writing process will be faster. Narrow a broad topic to a manageable size. Most topics are too broad to write about. For example, if you would like to write about the real estate market, you will not be able to stay focused and write something interesting if your essay is limited to 3-4 pages. You should limit your topic to the analysis of some aspects of the real estate market in a particular country. Do research. If you have a vague idea of what you would like to write about, do some research online. At this stage, you can use some sources with more general information, for example, different encyclopedias or Wikipedia. You can also search for ideas in authoritative newspapers, magazines or analytical resources. Decision Making and Risk Assessment in Business. Start Researching: Fresh Ideas from Our Writers If your instructor has given you a topic, you should analyze your task for keywords (such as compare, analyze, describe, criticize etc.) that determine the issue or the topic. Break down your assignment into several questions. This will help you make an informed choice of sources that are required to complete your assignment in finance. Now it’s time to look for solid sources of information related to the topic you have chosen. You may look through your textbooks or your class notes and try to find sources in the library. You can find a lot of up-to-date financial information in financial newspapers and journals. Start reading your sources to get an overall picture of your topic. When you read your sources, you need to keep your assignment in mind, take notes, and write some useful information that you can use for making quotations. Make sure you write down all the necessary information about the source title, its author, and the number of the page. In this way, you will work more productively when making references and creating your bibliography page. When you have finished a broad reading, you are ready to define your own perspective on your assignment question. Now it’s time to focus on more detailed texts and outline your possible line of argument. You should search for sources that provide details about the points you have determined as a part of an overall picture. You may use reading lists you have found in relevant articles in journals, library databases, and catalogs. At the end of your reading sources, you have to commit to a certain position that will help you make your writing coherent and logical. Write an Outline for Your Finance Essay Writing an essay is a time-consuming process that requires attention and careful planning. You should organize your argument and supporting evidence and determine connections between your key points. A good idea is to make an outline of your finance essay before you actually start writing it. Still, some students prefer to work without a detailed outline and just make a list of headings and sub-headings to stay focused, organized, and logical. You can make a plan for your finance essay in any format. The main thing is that you need to make this plan before you start working on your project. In this way, you’ll have an overview of what your finance assignment will cover. Your outline will guide your writing and ensure that you will cover everything. Create the First Draft You may start working on your finance essay with an introduction, although many people consider that this approach is too complex for them and they prefer to start their essay by completing body paragraphs. They write the introduction and the conclusion when they have already finished writing the main body. Introduction When writing the introduction which is the most difficult aspect of writing an essay in finance, you need to present the thesis statement that will guide your writing. You should make your thesis statement concise but it needs to incorporate all the major points of your essay. Your introduction should include your interpretation of a research question and a brief outline of your finance essay structure. You can mention some points you will argue in your finance essay. You can use this generic structure for your finance essay introduction: start with a general point about the main issue; demonstrate that you have a good understanding of your task; present your plan to organize the essay structure; make a transition to the first point. Main Body The body of your finance essay has to fulfill the promises that you have made in the introduction and it has to back your conclusions. Your body paragraphs should include your argument. You have to begin each paragraph with a topic sentence that will present one of your key points you want to argue in this particular paragraph. You need to support your key points by relevant evidence. The topic sentence actually expresses the main idea of the paragraph which you have to develop through analysis, discussion, and criticism. You have to provide examples that support or illustrate your point. At the end of your paragraph, you’ll need to include transitions that will ensure the logical flow of your essay in finance. Conclusion In your conclusion which is typically one paragraph consisting of 5 to 6 lines, you need to tell once more what your essay has achieved. You can do it by returning directly to the research question. You can use one sentence to sum up every paragraph in the body of your essay on finance. You have to refer back your research question and give an answer to it. You don’t have to include any new information but you have to logically sum up everything that you discussed or analyzed in your paper. After your conclusion is finished, you need to make a bibliography page and include all the sources you used for in-text referencing in the reference list. Format all your references according to the style specified by your instructor. You can check the requirement for different styles, like MLA, APA, Chicago or Harvard online. Revise Your Draft and Do the Editing When you have written your first draft, you have to put it aside for some time. After a day or two, read the entire essay aloud to get a fresh idea of its content and logic. No one can create a perfect draft at once. Even experienced writers often have to write several drafts or make improvements while revising the first draft. Be ready that you may need to change sections or make some improvements to make your finance essay clear and concise. Editing is a crucial stage in the finance essay writing process because by doing it, you can see how logical and well-expressed your argument is. At this stage, you mainly have to check logic, coherence, and some grammar aspects. While editing, you can have to take care of the following aspects: the logical structure of your finance essay and the balance of your thesis statement; focus on your research question or plan; linking of your essay’s content; use of appropriate headings; clarity of explanation; use of active and passive voice; length of your sentences. Proofreading This is the final stage of the writing process and you have to do it thoroughly and systematically. You should be very attentive in order not to miss some important details that you may need to change. Here are some tips on how you can do it right. Don’t try to identify everything at once. You’d better focus on some specific issues one after another. Be ready that you may need to reread your finance essay several times. Make a list of your typical errors from your previous writings and use them as a basis for your proofreading strategy. Common problems in writing include: spelling mistakes duplication of words faulty abbreviations inappropriate tenses missing apostrophes mixing singular and plural forms Check your in-text referencing and reference list for consistency. Make sure all references are accurate and appropriate. Now it’s time to find a second set of eyes to check your essays and find mistakes that you may have missed. You can ask your friend or parents to read your essay, fix possible mistakes, and suggest improvements. Writing finance essays can be a challenge for inexperienced students but we hope that these detailed writing tips can make the writing process easier for you and less daunting. If you practice doing research and writing essays on different financial topics, you are sure to improve your writing and analytical skills and become a confident writer who can easily cope with any challenging topic.

The Drug Diazepam in Pharmacology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4250 words

The Drug Diazepam in Pharmacology - Essay Example Only paramedics are allowed to use in the management of â€Å"psychostimulant-induced behavioral disturbances† in times of emergency (National Drug Strategy). a. A list of conventional over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, complementary alternative medicines (CAMs) and prescription medicines that are known or suspected to undergo clinically relevant interactions with your profile drug in humans. b. List the source(s) of information you have used and indicate the strength of the evidence (e.g. anecdotal report, clinical case, clinical trial, etc) for each of the interactions that you have identified. Fluconazole is an antifungal that belongs to a group of drugs known as azoles that increases the effects of Diazepam by increasing the levels of Diazepam available in the plasma at any given time. A study conducted by Saari established that Fluconazole increased the level of Diazepam two and a half times thereby increasing the sedative effects of Diazepam. However, the peak plasma concentrations and the pharmacodynamics of Diazepam were not affected (941-999). Voriconazole may inhibit Diazepams metabolism, increasing the risk of adverse effects. In essence, Voriconazole acts the same way as Fluconazole by increasing the levels of Diazepam that are available in the plasma at any given time (Saari 941-999). Therefore, a Diazepam dose should be decreased. Diazepam may possibly increase or decrease phenytoin concentration. The phenytoin concentration should be monitored in case of toxicity and the phenytoin dose should be adjusted as necessary (Australian Medicine Handbook 2011). Enhanced sedation or respiratory and cardiovascular depression may occur if diazepam or other benzodiazepines are combined with drugs that have CNS-depressant properties such as alcohol, antidepressants, sedative antihistamines, antipsychotics, general anesthetics, other hypnotics or sedatives and opioid analgesics.

Epidermiology process in movie Outbreak Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Epidermiology process in movie Outbreak - Essay Example However, it is unknown to many that, the carrier of the virus which is a monkey, was brought to the U.S by a freighter. It is through an under-table bribe by a young man that the monkey escaped being tested for the virus in the animal testing lab. This man then gets infected and the Col. Sams ex-wife, Dr. Keough, who is currently with the CDC, is called to a Boston hospital where the man is admitted, to assist with the situation (Wolfgang, 1995). The doctor soon confirms the death of a young man that has been caused by a virus. At the same time, there was an outbreak of the virus in a little town in California. The concerned organizations then set up a quarantine that would stop the virus from spreading. However, Fords boss, sinister Major-Gen. McClintock has an agenda with this situation, where he wants to use the lethal bug as a bioweapon. At the point where the President wants to order a fuel-air bomb to be dropped in the small town to stop the spread of this virus, Col. Daniel tr ies ways to unravel the plan of McClintock. The process of epidemiology is presented in the movie just from the point when a scientist identifies the virus as Motoba. They then understand the pathogenesis of the disease as well as its infectiousness. The mutations of the virus were then determined and classified. The scientists then work hard with the results of their research to develop a drug that can treat the virus. They then embark on treating the infected people and contain the outbreak in the most effective ways possible to stop further spread of the virus. On epidemiology, the geographic prevalence was first considered. Here, the concentration was on the small town in California where the outbreak was first experienced. This town became the center of focus where people from outside the region were advised not to visit the town at the moment. Similarly, there was no movement outside the town, since that could spread the virus even further.
